CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Hibiki Kuze
Character Canon: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2

History: slams this down here

AU History: Hibiki lived a relatively ordinary life growing up in Union. He was born to parents who loved him, did moderately well in school, and had a couple of really good friends that he spent a lot of time with.

...

some near death experience happened, made his abilities as an Enlightened manifest

Canon Personality: Like most Shin Megami Tensei protagonists, Hibiki is a silent protagonist. His personality is decided by the player as the game goes along, through dialogue options and the route that the player ultimately takes. Despite this amount of variance throughout, however, there are a few aspects of his attitude that remain constants, no matter what dialogue options are picked, no matter how you choose when the routes split. As the protagonist, Hibiki is the guy who draws everyone together and unites them under one banner; he’s the guy who everyone leans on when they need it, the guy everyone can rely on. Hibiki leads everyone into battle, sees them through safely, and makes sure they’re okay afterwards.

Hibiki’s pretty good with people! He’s a friendly, easygoing guy for the most part, and he trusts easily. He’s noted by Yamato to be able to draw out the strengths of the people around him, and he does this in and out of battle. He’s got a knack for tactics and directing people in a large-scale fight, and when the dust settles and the action’s wrapped up, he’s the one going around to talk to people one-on-one. He cares about everyone’s well-being, not just for the sake of everyone’s morale, but for each individual’s sake. He’ll talk people through their problems because he wants them to become the best they can be--he enjoys helping others. Hibiki’s also something of a moodmaker for the group; he’s good at keeping people’s spirits up, usually through jokes and the like. He’s got lots of playful or goofy dialogue options, pointing towards a good (if a touch loopy) sense of humor. Hibiki’s definitely not perfect in his people skills though--he’s prone to trusting someone he just met a little too easily, for instance. Sometimes his attempts at cheering people up or lightening the mood with a joke will fall flat, either because he tried with the wrong person (Yamato or Keita, for instance) or his timing was especially poor somehow.

While Hibiki is a leader in battle, he’s not really much of a leaderly type of leader outside of it--if anything, he’s more or less the heart of a team. His kind nature and friendly personality draw people to him, where he works to keep them together as a team regardless of what comes. It’s… not always successful, considering how there is a route split in the first place, with people who want to chase different ideal worlds. What’s notable is what happens after the route split, though--he approaches the surviving allies on the teams he doesn’t choose and manages to persuade them to fight for the cause he chose (and it works, provided his bonds with them are strong enough). It’s especially significant on the Daichi routes, where he’s able to recruit Yamato and Ronaldo to fight for the same objective: the Liberator and Restorer routes are the only ones where this is possible--they will die if you join their opposing cause or if you ally with the Anguished One.

Of course, Hibiki is more than just his people skills--those traits aren’t really why Yamato takes an interest in him. For Yamato, Hibiki is the complete antithesis to everything he knows: Hibiki doesn’t have any special training to do the things he does, doesn’t have any special education, doesn’t have the money to afford any of those things, doesn’t have any natural-born ability. He’s so completely normal and yet he’s so capable in ways that people don’t expect of him. Hibiki is adaptable and resourceful, he rises to the occasion no matter what situation arises. He’s terrified of the sudden influx of demons, sure, but he never really lets on often, if at all; his main focus to start with is getting and keeping his friends (and the weirdo adult that they picked up) out of the worst of the danger. (And then they get cornered by Dubhe.) He might not have all the answers to start with, and he definitely can’t predict everything that’s going to happen, whether it’s on or off the battlefield. He’s more than capable of being caught off-guard or utterly blindsided. The important thing though is that he’s adaptable enough to roll with the punches. There’s also something to be said for his resilience--not a lot of people can take a demon invasion in stride like he can. He can keep a cool head in serious, desperate, chaotic, or downright horrifying situations.

… Although that might not always be a good thing--he’s prone to compartmentalizing his fear or discomfort in scary situations or ones where he isn’t comfortable with orders. He feels it, sure, but fear isn’t conducive to getting the job done. It’s easier if he shoves it down and doesn’t let anyone see. If the leader’s afraid, that’s not going to help morale one bit. He’s focused on keeping up that front of a good leader, everyone’s rock, a pillar of strength. Fear and doubt is shoved into a little box and shoved aside; the needs of everyone else come first.

Between his friendly demeanor, good humor, cool head, and general adaptability, Hibiki is a great leader without necessarily being the leader. When he throws his lot in for a cause he believes in, he’s content to be a follower and a rallying point for the rest of the team. He’s not the guy who makes the plans, he’s just the one who makes sure they’re carried out to the letter and that everyone’s okay with following along.

SAMPLES
(NOTE: You may link a previous entry or thread, including testrun or musebox threads (but NOT Dear Mun), for one or both samples. However, we want to see the character in the setting of Brave New World and specifically in their AU for at least one sample.)

First-Person: (Also known as “commentspam.” This is from the character’s perspective and helps us determine how well you grasp your character’s voice. The minimum is six sentences. If we deem that there is not enough spoken or written dialogue, we will ask you for more. If you link an outside entry or thread, the minimum is 10 comments from your character in one thread/with one character.)

Third-Person: (This is written in prose from an independent narrator’s perspective. Here we want to see an insight into your character’s unspoken behavior -- actions, thoughts, their view of their world, etc. The minimum here is two paragraphs. If we do not get a good sense of your character’s behavior, we will ask for more. If you link an outside entry or thread, the minimum is 20 comments from your character in two threads/with two characters.)

If desired, you may answer some of the following questions in lieu of samples. The questions must be answered in-character, as if they are being asked by a teacher, mentor, or superior. If your character is lying in their answer, please identify it as a lie. The purpose of these is to get an idea of how you will play your character in lieu of the other sample options. 4 questions answered can be used as a substitute for a first-person sample, and 6 questions answered can be used as a substitute for a third-person sample. Both samples may be replaced in this manner. If the character doesn't say enough in their answer, we may request a few more answers for an acceptable sample.
